SKYACTIV Takeri at Mazda Takeri Comes To New York with Diesel Engine

We’ve been expecting Mazda to unveil the new generation of Mazda6 at the 2012 New York Auto Show, but they’re not yet ready. Instead they’re bringing along the Takeri Concept, the car upon which the new 6 will be based. The sporty four-door sedan features the  SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter diesel engine, and Mazda’s latest fuel saving technologies.

Those technologies include the i-ELOOP, which is Mazda’s name for regenerative braking system, and i-stop, their fancy name for the auto start/stop system. Compared to normal diesel engine of that size, the SKYACTIV will be 10 percent more fuel efficient. That said, a petrol-powered Takeri would be more relevant for America.

TAKERI is the third concept vehicle to feature the brand’s KODO (‘Soul of Motion’) design theme and the second to fully embrace SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY,” Mazda official statement reads. “TAKERI is the first Mazda concept vehicle to feature a SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel engine as well as other fuel-saving technologies such as i-stop, a stop-start system, and i-ELOOP, a regenerative braking system.
