The first commercial for the new Lexus ES cuts straight to the chase, showcasing what sets the new model apart from the old one. They talk about how it defies expectations, which is completely true, because given the old ES’ reputation as an extremely dull, boring and ugly sedan for retired geography teachers, the 2013 model comes as a bit of a surprise.

Not only the new model gets a fresh new look which is far more live and exciting than before, it also – for the first time – gets a hybrid version. This is a genuinely good car, hard to fault.

2013 Lexus ES will be available with Lexus Hybrid Drive. Featuring a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, the Lexus ES 300h hybrid is expected to earn an EPA fuel economy rating of approximately 40 mpg combined city/highway. The Lexus ES 300h hybrid offers the driver four modes: Normal, Sport, Eco and EV. EV mode allows short distance drives, at reduced speed, using only the power from the hybrid battery pack. Normal mode provides a blend of performance and efficiency that is suited to everyday driving, while Eco mode favors fuel economy. Sport mode increases powertrain responsiveness.
