Angry Birds sponsorship of Heikki Kovalainen is not limited to Formula 1 and his helmet. The next phase is launching a version of the game called ‘Angry Birds Heikki’ set for launch on June 18. The game is a racing-themed Angry Birds with additional bespoke content. Maybe the game make them more money than Kovalainen’s F1 career.
Angry Birds Heikki is being developed as a web-based game and it’s not clear yet if they’re going to offer an iOS version too. The latest version of Angry Birds has topped 50 million downloads in just over a month, which given the average price of $0.99 on iTunes, makes for very nearly $50 million gross profit.
Rovio is taking advantage of their Formula 1 connection not just by making games, but also offering branded merchandise. Their online store is now offering Kimi Raikkonen caps!
