The latest RenaultSport car is not a hatchback, but an estate. They just unveiled a GT 220 version of the Renault Megane Estate, a souped-up family car featuring unique visual treatment and powered by a meaty 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

A fast and agile Megane with a big boot sounds like a quite a recipe. It may not be just as fast as a hatchback Megane RS, but it’s a damn sight more exciting than the standard car. That turbo engine in the Megane Estate GT 220 makes – you guessed it – 220 horsepower with a peak torque of 340Nm (251 lb-ft).

Performance figures are yet to be announced, but Renault claims that it does 7.3 liters / 100 km (32.2 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 169 g/km; pretty good figures for a sporty station wagon.

The Estate GT gets the same RS chassis as the hatchback Megane, which means it comes with sports suspension, brakes and 18-inch wheels with high-performance tires. What’s more, the electric steering system is recalibrated to cope with the GT chassis and deliver more feel.

Visually, the telltale signs of RS treatment include gloss black accents in the bumpers, window surrounds, mirror caps, plus smoked lights, tinted windows, blacked-out roof and wheels.
