Vauxhall is replacing its high performance Insignia VXR model with an faster, stronger model called the VXR SuperSport. It offers an even bigger bang for the buck, undercutting the outgoing model by £3,760, and yet offers a truly astonishing top speed of 170 mph.
So this car is as fast as a Jaguar XFR with Speed Pack, and yet costs £29,995. What’s not to love about that. Granted, the badge says Vauxhall, and the handling might not be that brilliant, but where else can you get 170 mph for that price?
Powering the SuperSport is Vauxhall’s 2.8-litre V6 Turbo ECOTEC engine, developing 325 PS. It gives the good-looking saloon a 0 to 60 time of 5.6 seconds. The car also comes as standard with adaptive all-wheel-drive chassis and HiPerStrut front suspension – which gives negative camber for more grip – and FlexRide system with adaptive damping. So it shouldn’t have any problem handling that kind of speed.
Visually, the VXR SuperSport is pretty much identical to the normal models, except for blue ‘Brembo’ lettering on its front brake callipers and additional increments on its speedometer.
The Insignia VXR SuperSport pays homage to the the 100-year old 30-98 model. It was UK’s first 100mph car.
