The recent Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, was one of the most successful ever, with some seriously big numbers shifting on some special cars. The star of the show was the First Corvette Stingray that broke the million dollar barrier. But then this 60’s Batmobile came in and smashed the records, fetching $4.2 Million.
It is not just any old Batmobile, mind you. It is the original 1966 TV Batmobile. It was built based on a Lincoln Futura by car customizer and current owner George Barris in just 15 days, and went on to star not only in the TV series but the movie adaption as well.
Besides seeing the likes of the infamous, Adam West and Burt Ward (Batman and Robin), this car has been on a variety of television/movie sets, car shows and museums around the nation. It is also featured in Christopher Nolan’s Batmobile Documentary.
The most interesting fact about this car, however, is that George bought the concept car – built by Italian coachmaker Ghia – from Ford for just $1. And now he is selling it for $4.2 mil!
