Thanks to the new Holden Commodore VF, and then its SS-V version, we now know what the new Chevrolet SS looks like. Still, we’re quite excited to see the real thing, and joy of joys, it is just around the corner. Chevrolet just confirmed the car’s debut at the Daytona International Speedway on Feb 16, which is tomorrow.
We do hope Chevy SS lives up to all the hype, but don’t expect it to be a full-on M5 rival. The Americans idea of a sports saloon is not the same as the Europeans. The SS will be powered by the new Corvette’s 6.2 liter LT1 V8 engine with 400+ horsepower thereabout. It shares its underpinnings with the Australian Holden, which means it has multi-link suspension, which means it has lots of built-in tendency to oversteer.
It may not be faster than the Europeans of this class, and it certainly won’t be as refined, but if the previous V8-powered Holdens are any indication it is going to be a very fun car to drive.
