2013 Pebble Beach: Galpin Auto Sports GTR1

One of the biggest attractions of the Pebble Beach Concours, the American equivalent of Goodwood Festival of Speed, is the contrast between all the classic cars and the modern exotics on display. And one of the most interesting one of those exotics this year is the GTR1 by Galpin Auto Sports (GAS).

This car is based on the modern-day Ford GT, but its vision and philosophy harks back to the original GT40. Galpin Auto Sports GTR1 gets the firm’s own design and body work, but the engine is a tuned twin-turbo 5.4-liter V8 unit that makes a Veyron-busting 1024 horsepower and 739 pound-feet of torque.

Performance, as you’d expect from that kind of firepower, is quite vivid. Zero to 60 mph takes less than three seconds; o to 100 about six seconds; and the top speed is 225 mph.

The GTR1 benefits from Galpin Auto Sports’ years of experience in tuning business, hence the colossal power, beautiful engine bay, and magnificent interior that features tons of fine blue leather. Sadly, we can’t say the same thing about the way this car looks, especially as it is going to cost over $1 million USD. It is too ugly for a million dollar car.
