Honda decided to release the first details of its new Civic Type R and get our engine revving about it, even though the car is not going to be launched over the next two years. It’s one helluva tease, but one that is going to be worth it, as The 2015 Honda Civic Type R is said to pack at least 280 horsepower.

Now, we do realize that you can already get hot hatches with 300 and even 350 horsepower. But the new trend is moving toward downsizing the engines, decreasing the horsepower, and seek performance through lightness. And the new Type R is going to benefit from all that. But still makes big power. That sounds like a lot of fun.

What’s more, Honda does know a thing or two about making hot hatches. Granted, the current Civic Type R is a bit of a pig, but the model before that, that goes down in the history books as one of the all time greats. It was wonderful. So there is hope for the new model still.

Besides teasing the 2015 Honda Civic Tourer, the Japanese car maker also wants to boast a little about the civic Tourer, which does 74.3mpg when powered by Honda’s 1.6 i-DTEC engine, and emits under 100 g/km CO2.
