Honda announced the launch of a new special edition of the CR-V crossover in the European market. It is called the Honda CR-V Black Edition, and that can be misleading, as some may think it is black in the same way that a Mercedes AMG Black is black.

It is not. The Honda CR-V Black Edition is actually black. It’s just the paint job. And that’s not even true, because also order it in white! In essence, the CR-V Black Edition is a black CR-V with body-color bumpers, sills, mirrors caps, spoilers and flaps. It actually looks a lot better than the standard CR-V.

The car is also available with 18 or 19-inch wheels in gunpowder black. Choices of the engines include a 2.0 i-VTEC, a 2.4 i-VTEC, and a 2.2 i-CTDi diesel. The trim levels are the same as the normal CR-V models.

Going on sale first in Netherlands and then the rest of Europe, the Honda CR-V Black Edition costs, depending on the trim, from 2,290 euros to 3,490 euros more than the standard car. That sounds like a lot for what’s, basically, a bucket of black paint. But then it is a special edition, which holds its value better when you come to sell it.
