Honda released a bunch of new teaser shots of the new Civic Type R as it undergoes a new series of high speed tests at Honda’s in-house test track in Tochigi, Japan. These tests are designed to push the car’s all-new VTEC TURBO engine to its limits.

This 2 litre, direct injection, 4-cyclinder turbo engine belongs to the firm’s Earth Dreams family, and according to Honda it will have in excess of 280 PS. That makes it more powerful than the average hot hatch on the market and put it in the same league as special editions and bespoke models. It will be EURO 6 compliant as well, which is good.

2015 Honda Civic Type R testing continues in Japan and Europe as engineers and test drivers are trying to make sure the end result, set for debut in 2015, will be flawless in every way and a true segment-leader.

Speaking during recent testing at the Nurburgring, Germany, Honda’s WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini, gave his first driving impressions ‘The car and the characteristics of the car were fantastic. I was really impressed by the power and the torque of the engine but also by the set-up they achieved…The car is very pointed on the front and very fast to change direction’. ‘This car is very close to my racing car and you can feel very well the DNA of Type R.’
