Not to be outdone by Ford and Chrysler who both have utility vehicles prepared for the law enforcement, Chevrolet launched this Tahoe Police Concept at the SEMA show. The new Tahoe PPV offers more power, greater efficiency and enhanced features developed for law enforcement. This automatic 4WD pursuit vehicle will join the special service models.
Chevrolet has been supplying special service cars to the FBI, CIA, and Secret Service for years. Now they want to go overt and enter the police car market with this car. With a sturdy body-on-frame architecture and versatility, all-new interior, exterior and EcoTec3 powertrain, the new Chevrolet Tahoe Police car is nothing like the rubbish old models. The car maintains the large and imposing dimensions of its predecessors, but in almost every area it’s been improved and enhanced.
Chevrolet Tahoe Police Concept comes with a standard EcoTec3 5.3L V-8 developing 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a Hydra-Matic 6L80 six-speed automatic transmission with a unique police-service calibration that supports pursuit performance. Besides being faster and more efficient, the 2015 Tahoe is also more practical for Police work.
The vehicle is fitted with a standard 730-CCA Auxiliary Battery, which allows officers to power their equipment, including radios, video cameras and laptops without affecting the main battery. It is also easier to live with, thanks to rear park assist, backup camera and optional adjustable pedals.
To be available in the second quarter of 2014, Chevrolet Tahoe PPV will join the current line of official service vehicles, employed by state and local municipalities and federal government officials for patrol, first response, tactical, HAZMAT, Border Patrol and K9.
