Popular cars tend to leak out rather quickly ahead of a major event, and so it happens to the new 2015 Corvette Z06 Stingray, the high-performance version of the new Stingray. These are the first pictures of the car that became available ahead of its official debut at the 2014 NAIAS next week.

At first glance, we have to say the Z06’s design is substantially different than the standard Corvette. We were expecting a spoiler here, a wing there, and that’s the lot. But Chevy designer have gone to an enormous length to make sure the Z06 stand out as a high-performance machine. You really would think this is a ZR1 not a mere Z06.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 features a massive carbon fiber splitter at the front that shakes hands with the new fender flares on each side and complements the new aggressive front grille. The carbon hood is new, and it features a sizable bulge with vents in its. It looks really good. Down the sides of the car you get the new carbon aero blades, and at the back, a big carbon spoiler as well as a revised diffuser with the same four-tailpipe arrangement as the standard Stingray.

The new Z06 looks undeniably impressive. But it is not all show and no go. The car features a new V8 engine which, according to Chevy, makes 620 horsepower 650 lb-ft of torque. God knows what the ZR1 is going to be like. We have a sneaking suspicion, though, Chevy went all out with the Z06 because they are not going to make a ZR1.
