The Europeans never took the Corvette seriously as a sports car, and rightly so. The previous generations of the American car were all fast in straight line, but quite awful at everything else. With the new C7 Stingray though, things have dratically changed. It’s an all-new product designed with one goal in mind: to give these “Euro trash” sports cars a bloody nose.
To find out if the Americans have nailed it this time round, Autocar pitted the Corvette Stingray against some of the finest sports car Europe has to offer. The lineup included the Porsche 911 Carrera 2S, the Jaguar F-Type V8S, and the Audi R8 V8. The result of the test is quite astonishing:
The fact that Autocar divided the test into different categories and examined the Corvette against the best Euro car in each aspect leaves you in no doubt the Stingray is a proper machine. Looks like they finally found the magic formula and came up with something that not only matches the established standards in this class, in many cases it exceeds them even. And it does all that at a fraction of the cost of the other cars in this group.
