In a very gentlemanly act, Chevrolet released an official statement to congratulate Ford on the 50th anniversary of the Mustang. Camaro and Mustang are arch rivals in the pony car segment, and have been at each other’s throat for the past 47 years, ever since Chevy came up with the Camaro to rival the Ford.
They liken the story of Camaro vs Mustang to the rivalry between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, Jay Leno and David Letterman, or Nike and Reebok. Chevy also admits that the Camaro is constantly getting better thanks to the intense competition it’s given by the Mustang.
They have even got the Ford a Camaro cake to wish it a happy birthday. OK, so it’s not a real cake, but still, very cool.
“For five decades, the Camaro and the Mustang have been battling it out in every possible setting,” said Mark Reuss, executive vice president, GM Global Product Development. “These two cars have been striving to beat each other on the track, on the drag strip and on the streets. That competition is a big part of why both cars are so amazing, and so popular, today.”
