What you see here is definitely the most interesting car at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, and it could very well be one of the most interesting cars ever built. It’s the Pininfarina-bodied 1969 Fiat Abarth 2000 One-Off, built as a futuristic concept.

It is often said that Abarth these days is wasting its time tuning Fiat 500s, and that they should go back to making insane machines. This car shows you why. If you let these guys roam free and do their thing, they can come up with amazing stuff.

Fiat Abarth 2000 One-Off is based on the Sport Spider SE, an Abarth racing car from the same period, and is powered by a four-cylinder DOHC four-banger with 220 horsepower. It has the manliest tailpipe we’ve ever seen on any car ever. Well, it’s not so much a tailpipe as a flamethrower. The jet fighter-like canopy and the extremely low height are among the other awesome features of this car.
