As we get closer to the end of 2014 speculations on the cars set for debut early next year heat up. One of the most eagerly anticipated cars to be launched in 2015 is the new Cadillac CTS-V super sedan, which will, reportedly, get close to 600 horsepower.

Here’s an early look at what the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V may look like in a rendering by independent designer Theophilus Chin. We have to say we were expecting a bit more joie de vivre from a 600-hp BMW M5-rivaling car, and what we see here is a bit too sober, for lack a better term. Still, a large of part of the appeal of cars like this is the understatement factor. The less flamboyant they look, chances are they are faster.

And 2016 Cadillac CTS-V will indeed be fast, as least if the current generation is anything to go by. Things are better for the new model, as now GM has access to a whole host of performance parts – suspension, brakes, electronics, etc., – they have developed for the Corvette Stingray and Camaro Z/28. The CTS-V, then, is going to be well prepared to take in its German rivals, namely BMW M5 and Mercedes E63 AMG.

And don’t worry about the looks. It’s an American car, which means there will be a million different body kits available for it a week after launched.
