Following a somewhat disconcerting teaser that showed some pretty weird headlights, the 2016 Lexus ES has now been fully revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show. Granted, those lights look less obtrusive seen as part of the overall styling. But still, we like the discreetness of the current model better.
Other highlights of the new ES’ design include signature L-shaped LED lights, an even more prominent grille with chrome surrounds and everything, redesigned fog lamps, new 17-inch wheels, and a number of fresh new colors.
Thankfully, the vulgarity stops on the outside. The interior is more luxurious and more classy than ever, featuring in the new model high-end leather in a number of colors, trims in Piano Black, Linear Dark Mocha Wood, Shimamoku, Bamboo, and Espresso Bird’s Eye Maple, and a larger TFT infotainment screen.
The engine lineup for the 2016 Lexus ES, like the rest of their family car range, include a 2.0-liter direct-injection four-cylinder and a 3.5 liter V6. Depending on the market, the ES might also get a hybrid powerplant and a 2.5-liter L4 unit. Thew new sedan also comes with Lexus Safety System + which crams a whole bunch of safety features in an all-in-one sort of package so you don’t have to pick them individually.
