Following the launch of the new Ibiza Cupra, Spanish automaker SEAT now announced the arrival of a spicier model. The 2016 SEAT Leon CUPRA 290 hot hatch comes with sharp styling, loads of power, and advanced technologies promising to make a great driver’s car.
To be launched into the European markets after its debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show, the new SEAT Leon CUPRA 290 packs a 2.0 liter 290 PS TSI turbo engine. That is a lot of power for a front-wheel-drive car, which is why they have equipped it with DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control), front differential lock, progressive steering, and CUPRA Drive Profile.
A lot is going on up there, but the result is a good drive and a huge turn of speed. When fitted with the optional DSG transmission, SEAT Leon CUPRA 290 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. The manual is a tenth of a second slower. The performance can be enhanced further with the optional Sub8 Performance Pack, which includes a set of Brembo brake callipers, an exclusive wheel design and special tyres.
Styling-wise, typicalSEAT features, such as sharp angles and frowning LED headlights, give the Leon CUPRA a familiar look – somewhat indistinguishable from the Ibiza, some may argue. The car has a nice interior though, featuring a lot of Alcantara, CUPRA steering wheel and the Satellite Navigation with a 6.5 inch screen.
