With a limited production run of just 50 units for the whole world, the McLaren 650S Can-Am is beast of utmost rarity. But spotters in Hamburg, Germany, have been lucky enough to sight one at McLaren’s local dealership prior to delivery.
Now, to an uninterested eye McLaren 650S Can-Am looks like a badly specced 650S ordered by someone with rubbish taste in colors. The two-tone red and black paint job and those wheels are not really what one would call pretty. It takes an aficionado to realize this paint scheme is an homage to the Can-Am (Canadian-American Challenge Cup) race cars of the 1960s and 70s down to the shape and finish of the wheels. A real car guy will find this design absolutely irresistible.
That’s a shame, because as mentioned McLaren 650S Can-Am is a sold-out limited edition of just 50 units, each pre-sold at £255,850. Of course, you will be able to find one for sale through private owners or third-party dealers, but you are going to have to pay a whole lot more than 250 grand for it. And all the money goes into the looks, because the Can-Am has the same 650 horsepower 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine as the standard 650S Spider. It does, however, come in three bespoke colors–Papaya Spark, Mars Red, and McLaren Orange—and the interior features special carbon and Alcantara trims.
