The all-new Hyundai IONIQ, a car famous for being offered with all three variants of the electrified powertrain, is now on sale in the United Kingdom. The Korean green car starts from £19,995 for the hybrid version and £24,495 (including Plug-in Car Grant) for the electric. A plug-in hybrid will join the lineup later in 2017.
While Hyundai IONIQ comes with different powertrains, there are a number of shared features all models are blessed with. They include latest connectivity systems – including Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charging, lightweight aluminium bonnet and tailgate, and a 443 liter boot which is considerably larger than this car’s main rival, Toyota Prius. The basic model also features 15” alloys, DAB with Bluetooth, Cruise Control and Rear Parking Sensors with Rear View Camera. Safety features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) and individual Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
As for the technical specs, Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid gets a 1.6 GDi engine along with an electric motor, developing 140 combined horsepower and averaging more than 83 mpg. The IONIQ electric, meanwhile, has a 120 horsepower electric motor backed up by a Lithium-ion Polymer under the rear seats which gives it a range of 174 miles or 280 km.
The standard kit on the electric version of the IONIQ include Automatic Windscreen Wipers with Rain Sensor, 16” alloy wheels, LED headlamps and rear combination lamps and Advanced Smart Cruise Control. This model boasts adjustable regenerative braking and can be charged to 80 percent capacity in just 33 minutes from a 50kW CCS Combo Rapid public charger.
