Mazda is not big on giving their SUVs and crossovers any special treatments, least of all performance upgrades. But the new Mazda CX-5, unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show not that long ago, looks sporty enough and cool enough to deserve at least entertaining this idea.
And just to give them a nudge in the right direction X-Tomi Design has come up with this nice rendering showcasing the Mazda CX-5 in high-performance MPS guise – a treatment usually reserved only for the 3 and 6 models. That is why the crossover looks lower and chunkier around the sills and bumpers, and also seem to be wearing unusually large shoes.
We quite like the idea of a Mazda CX-5 MPS, especially if they give it a properly hot engine with, say, 300 horsepower. We put it to you, a car like that would be a lot more fun to drive than something like a Porsche Macan. Mazda is the absolute authority in making affordable fun cars. It’s a pity they don’t extend this expertise to the world of utility vehicles.
