Every time the Subaru BRZ or Toyota GT86 are in the news we eagerly open the press release expecting to see this time to see what we have been waiting for since 2013, which is a proper power upgrade for the 2.0 liter boxer engine. And every time we are disappointed, as every time changes are mostly cosmetic or have to do with handling.

So yes, here’s the new 2017 Subaru BRZ for the British market, and no, it doesn’t get a power upgrade. What it does get is slightly revised looks and some changes to the suspension. This doesn’t make sense to us because there isn’t much one can do to improve the looks of this car, and as for the handling, it is pretty much perfect the way it is and doesn’t really need all this fiddling and messing around.

At any rate, the 2017 Subaru BRZ comes with a wider, lower stance at the front end for better airflow, complementing a chunky rear spoiler and new 10 spoke aluminium design wheels. What’s more, the dampers have been redesigned to reduce body roll, and there is a new TRACK mode in the traction control system and a new type of Hill Start Assist (HSA).

The BRZ hits UK showrooms in one SE Lux trim only with either a manual or automatic transmission. It comes with a 4.2-inch colour LCD multi-information display in the instrument panel with a G-force meter steering angle gauge, brake force gauge, lap timer and torque/power curves for the car geeks who love this sort of stuff, a better quality steering wheel and Alcantara and leather seats. Pricing for the 2017 modeyear BRZ is yet to be confirmed.
