Ram Trucks is setting the bar really high for heavy duty pickup trucks with the launch of their new 2018 Ram 3500 HD. This torque monster delivers a ginormous 930 lb.-ft. of torque power, the highest ever for a pickup, which gives it the ability to tow 30,000 lbs worth of stuff.

Now that could be a trailer, a mobile home, or an airliner. Assisting the 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty in this task is a newly engineered fifth-wheel hitch. Ram’s new hitch will allow customers to move away from Class 4 and 5 trucks to haul trailers that would have otherwise been limited to 24,000 lbs.

The massive torque of 2018 Ram 3500 Heavy Duty comes from a Cummins 6.7-liter diesel engine. Improvements resulting in that oomph include higher boost limits through a variable geometry turbo and flow rate increases through the fuel delivery system, enabling the 6.7-liter I-6 to produce an additional 30 lb.-ft. of torque. Al of this makes the new 3500, which starts production this week, a workman’s dream. It’s not just the amazing capabilities of this truck, or the fact that it looks kind of cool. 930 torque also gives you a lot of bragging right in those all too important bar conversations!
