Following the unveiling of the new MX-5 last week, Mazda is gradually revealing more details on the car in the run-up to the Paris Motor Show where it makes it real world debut. They have now released a video from the reveal event in California which offers a good look at the new Miata plus a lecture from the company’s head designer, Derek Jenkins.

The KODO styling of 2016 Mazda MX-5, especially the front-end, has sparked a bit of controversy among its fans. But the MX-5 is a sports car, and with sports cars it is always form following function, as Jenkins explains:

Weighing just over 1,000 kg, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 has near perfect 50-50 weight distribution. It is also shorter, wider, and lower than the previous generation, all of which means the handling is even greater than before. Engine-wise, the Mx-5 will be available with a range of SKYACTIV motors from a 1.5 liter with 130bhp to a 2.0 liter with up to 200bhp.
