Earlier this month a video appeared on the internet showing a camo’d car – the new Corvette – testing in Gran Turismo 5 video game. Now turns out it was for real, as Chevy confirms that the 2014 Corvette is offered as as free download for GT5. It is still heavily camouflaged though.
So you won’t get to see it, but you will be able to (virtually) drive it and hear the sound of its brand-new V8 engine. It is a first-of-its-kind driving experience to have a yet to be released car available in a video game. Chevrolet has collaborated with the creators of the Gran Turismo, the most popular car game of all time, to offer the fans an authentic driving experience in a seventh-generation Corvette prototype.
The real Corvette C7 will be unveiled in Detroit January 2013.
“Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Global Marketing. “Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience.”
