Honda has released a fresh set of teaser pictures, revealing some of the more intimate bits of the all-new Honda Civic Type R ahead of the car’s official debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. They have also confirmed the hot hatch’s performance figures, and they are good. Really good.
The 2016 Honda Civic Type R comes with a 2.0 litre direct injection VTEC TURBO engine that makes enough power to give the little car a big top speed: 270 km/h (167 mph). That makes the R one of the, if not the, fastest front-wheel-drive cars in the world.
The brilliant engine is not the only factor enabling the Honda Civic Type R to be so ferociously fast. The car’s carefully designed and fine-tuned aerodynamics also play a major part in the affair. It has bumpers shaped so they reduce air turbulence and drag, and a flat underbelly.
What’s more, the new Civic R is blessed with a massive aero kit consisting of wide front splitter and deep side skirts, large rear diffuser, and a bespoke rear wing. These parts not only make the car cut through the air more efficiently, they also give it a quintessential hot hatch look.
Other performance highlights of the new Type R include Brembo high-performance brakes with 350mm drilled discs and 19-inch lightweight wheels wrapped with high-performance rubber.
